Student accommodation, which is considered as a type of housing, especially designated for higher education students, is often used as an instrument of social policy. In many countries, the public sector provides subsidized housing to students in order to contribute to the coverage of their costs of living. In Europe, affordable student accommodation takes an essential part of the social infrastructure of higher education. Particularly, it is very important for students who do not have the sufficient financial means to access higher education, including: first-year students, many international students, students who are regionally or nationally mobile (moving away from home), low-income and first-generation students.<\/a>[1]<\/p>\n

As of 2019, Europe counts with 19.6 million students, from which 8% being international students.[2] University student residency has been progressively attracting real estate investors, as it appears to be a growing market, especially due to the growing presence of foreign students.<\/p>\n

Italian regulations introduced the house model of student lodging and its specific dimensional connections among public and private spaced, which offers an investment channel for both public and private sectors. The \u201cput into practice\u201d contains the categories of \u201cinterventions\u201d, which include[3]:<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Restorations, building and urban restructuring<\/li>\n
  2. New constructions or extension of student housing<\/li>\n
  3. Purchase of buildings to be destined to student housing<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Within these regulations, the focus and the knowledge transfer in addition to research results of techno-typological innovation, environmental quality and technical construction solutions the ontology developed for this project\u00a0is focused on student residence buildings based on the categories of “interventions” mentioned above and energy efficiency parameters.<\/p>\n
