This spacing is directly related to tunnel width and is required to maintain sufficient clearance for load transfer, ground stability, and construction tolerances. In the defined system, a fixed distance of&nbsp;8 m&nbsp;between tunnel axes is modelled. By fixing this spacing, the model ensures a consistent underground layout that remains compatible with the station box geometry and construction requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tunnel Width [m]<\/strong><br>Tunnel width is also treated as a hard constraint within the model. This decision is based on the standardization of rolling stock dimensions and tunnel cross-section requirements, which are governed by established railway design standards. Accordingly, a fixed tunnel width of&nbsp;8 m&nbsp;is defined in the model. This ensures compatibility with standardized train envelopes, safety clearances, and conventional construction methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Design Variable<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tunnel Depth [m]<\/strong><br>How deep the tunnel underground is treated as a design variable within the model. It is directly governed by the station box depth as all tunnels are required to arrive at the same vertical level as the station box.
