The global trend of urbanization continues to draw increasing populations into densely populated areas, necessitating the development and maintenance of essential civil engineering systems. These systems play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of urban societies by providing vital services such as energy, water, and environmental protection.<\/address>\n

Many of these infrastructure systems, constructed decades ago, now face the challenge of aging components and increased demand. Their growing complexity and interdependencies require a sophisticated approach to identify, evaluate, and optimize maintenance strategies.<\/address>\n
In this project, we explore the integration of several key systems:<\/p>\n

\u00bb A dam serving as the water intake point, where raw water is collected;
\n\u00bb A wastewater primary sedimentation tank, designed to treat the water and remove impurities;
\n\u00bb A steel storage tank, ensuring safe and efficient storage of treated water;
\n\u00bb A network of interconnected pipes, facilitating the seamless flow of water between components.<\/p>\n

This case exemplifies the integration of these systems into a unified \u2018system of systems.\u2019 We aim to explore:<\/p>\n

\u00bb How these systems can function cohesively to ensure optimal performance;
\n\u00bb The definition and analysis of maintenance scenarios, evaluating the behavior of each component and its impact on the overall system;
\n\u00bb The development of a new Life-Cycle Inventory (LCI) and Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate environmental and economic impacts;
\n\u00bb The use of multi-objective optimization to determine the best maintenance and operational strategies.<\/p>\n

By addressing these aspects, we aim to develop sustainable, efficient, and resilient solutions for modern infrastructure systems. This approach not only extends the lifecycle of these systems but also ensures their continued relevance in supporting growing urban populations.<\/p>\n<\/address>\n
