Exploring the design space is possible through manipulating the inputs while looking for viable route layouts. To meet the goal of granting road access and water supply at minimal costs to allow operation of the fire station, the routes must on the one hand be as short as possible while also avoiding inclines of the terrain. Additionally, the bypassing of mountains should be solved without sharp turns to allow safe road traffic and minimize the effort of bending pipeline segments. The following 3 routing options are the result of an analysis to examine the trade-offs of different route configurations. Option 1 incorporates\u00a0 a beneficial route for the road access, while the length and curvature of the pipeline is favorable in option 3. Option 2 is showing a different approach, where the performance of both road and pipeline are not dominating but because of the shared space help to optimize the resource allocation of the construction sites. Caused by the nature of the railway routing, the number of crossings is for each option the same. Additionally it should be mentioned that further options or combinations of the shown routes could lead to optimal or pareto-optimal solutions regarding the engineering challenge. Optimization algorithms could support the engineers task of evaluating the routing layouts and lead to faster iterations and a broad bandwidth of options through the installation of a \u201cdesign automation\u201d workflow.<\/p>\n
