Among those key systems, the Water Distribution Network (WDN) is crucial for the residents, cities\u2019 services, and industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The water distribution network\u00a0 can be considered a system, as it is composed by a great number of pipe diameters, junctions between those pipes, and can also be decomposed in primary main pipes and secondary ones.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Subsystem : Water Main Pipe<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Water mains are probably the most important component of a water distribution system. This particular\u00a0pipe will conduct the water from the water treatment plants to other secondary pipes of branch networks.\u00a0A failure on a water main means a failure of the whole water distribution network. For its evident\u00a0importance, it is necessary already on the design phase to choose the right pipe type.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the latest assignment, we could compare three design solutions for a water main pipe. The three solutions are\u00a0considered to have the same function, since the nominal diameter of the pipe and thus the water flow\u00a0capacity is equivalent for every design option. We defined a Goal and Scope of our LCA, choosing the the following environmental performance indicators for the analysis:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Energy Consumption (MJ)<\/li>\n<li>Water Consumption (m<sup>3<\/sup>)<\/li>\n<li>CO<sub>2<\/sub> Emission (kg eq. CO<sub>2<\/sub>)<\/li>\n<li>SO<sub>2<\/sub> Emission (kg eq.
