System selection and introduction:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe system used for the first assignment was a public playground for children consisting of<br \/>\nground, swing, slide and see-saw. For the assignment in hand a combination of the ground and<br \/>\nthe swing were selected, they were connected considering that the usage of the swing affects the<br \/>\ndeterioration of the ground depending on the used material.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Parameter definition for the calculation of quantities:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe main parameter is the number of swing seats N. Which is used to calculate the dimensions of<br \/>\nthe profiles used for the construction of the swing. The second parameter the area of the<br \/>\nplayground A which is used to calculate the quantities for the selected ground material.<br \/>\nTwo design options for construction of the swing are considered. The first is a steel construction<br \/>\nwhile the second is a wooden construction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-10083\" src=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pg-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"pg\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pg-300x158.jpg 300w, http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pg.jpg 486w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Swing consists of mainly posts (vertical) a bar (horizontal). the number of posts is calculated<br \/>\nconsidering that every two swing seats need an additional post, therefore I used the equation:<br \/>\nNrPo = 1 + ceil(N\/2). The necessary length of the bar is calculated with the equation: L = N*1,10<br \/>\n[m].<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Design options:<\/strong><br \/>\nCombining our possible design variations we get the following options to asses and compare:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Design Option Swing Material Ground Material<br \/>\nOption 1 Steel Rubber<br \/>\nOption 2 Steel Sand<br \/>\nOption 3 Steel Artificial grass<br \/>\nOption 4 Wood Rubber<br \/>\nOption 5 Wood Sand<br \/>\nOption 6 Wood Artificial grass<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>4. Goal and scope definition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The main goal of the life cycle assessment is to evaluate the amount of produced industrial waste.<br \/>\nThe scope and system boundary are represented in the following figure. The industrial waste<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10086\" src=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt.jpg\" alt=\"rt\" width=\"917\" height=\"632\" srcset=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt.jpg 917w, http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt-300x207.jpg 300w, http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt-520x358.jpg 520w, http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt-740x510.jpg 740w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 917px) 100vw, 917px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/141.23.68.248\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/rt.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>could be produced all along the way from the extraction of raw materials to maintenance actions.<br \/>\nThat is why the system boundary must include more than just the construction and maintenance<br \/>\nof the system.<br \/>\nThe necessary interventions that were considered in the assessment are listed below:<br \/>\n&#8211; RuRe: rubber replacement.<br \/>\n&#8211; P: Paint.<br \/>\n&#8211; RP: Repositioning.<br \/>\n&#8211; SaRe: Sand refill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; GrRe: Grass replacement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; JI: Joints inspection of the wooden construction.<br \/>\nThe time lines with the necessary interventions were created for each design option. The following<br \/>\nfigure is the timeline of design option 5.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Life cycle inventory:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe amounts for each material is calculated using the mentioned equations. A life cycle inventory<br \/>\nhas been established for each material and it includes the information about produced waste up<br \/>\nto the point of construction. In addition, the quantities needed for each intervention during the life<br \/>\ncycle of the subsystem. All amounts are provided in cubic meter. The values are imaginary and in<br \/>\nreal life need to come from an authentic source of course. Life cycle assessment:<\/strong><br \/>\nBased on the created timeline we get the amounts of intervention needed for each design option.<br \/>\nThe total volume of industrial waste is calculated using the following equations using the following<br \/>\nequations:<br \/>\nTotal waste = production waste + maintenance waste.
